Now that's cold

It is now officially, completely cold. The Chicago River is frozen. I took these photos on my walk from the train to my office this past week. It was well below zero, which had me wearing my warmest coat. But the wind whistles through the buildings at the river, and walking on the bridge is bracing. I took my gloves off to hold the camera and had them off for less than a minute, but they went numb and stayed that way until I could get inside. Greta and I have been calling this weather "sub-Texas", meaning it is colder than we ever experienced in Texas. And for a couple weeks now, that refers to the high for the day, not the low.

But it is warm in our home and in our hearts. The good news is that it has been very sunny, which helps a bit. As will the trip to Phoenix next weekend to visit Maki and Caron.
